So I woke up this morning to this:
It took me by surprise. Last night I kept going over to the window and opening up the blinds every 30 minutes because weather did say that there was a 60% chance of snow. I gave up around bedtime last night.
It was about 6:45am when I had mostly gotten ready for the day. it hit me that there was a chance of icy conditions and roads could possibly be closed. I booted up my iPad and searched for up to date traffic. It did not give me much of anything. I called the outage hotline for my work and found out there was a delayed start for 10am. The hub called his work and found out it would be 12 noon for him. I called a co worker and asked if she had called the hotline. She said yes, and she would be in a little later. I apologized for waking her up so early, since her shift starts a good 3 1/2 hours later than mine. she laughed and stated, "no need to worry, I've been up for a while because of the kids. They are outside playing in the snow right now."
Snow?
They got snow??
Do I HAVE SNOW?!?!?
I could hardly contain myself. After a quick good bye and wishes to stay safe on the road, I twirled the blind stick and there it was:
People react in different ways from one another when they are trying to comprehend exactly what is going on, and trying to figure out what to do about it. I felt like a kid on Christmas day. I felt like my heart had stopped and my limbs were stiff. It took me a moment. But I finally exclaimed aloud, "snow snow snow! Hub we have snow! There is snow outside!"
He was walking around the kitchen finishing up a bowl of cereal, stopped and said "really?" but the way he sort of reacted, it was as if I had instead said "oh I went to the store and there is more apples in the fridge."
Yes, there is snow!
He strolled over to the window and peeked out. "that isn't snow, sweetie, that is ice."
He went on and lauched a long explanation of why it was not snow, and how it was really truely just ice, the sprinklers go off every night at the complex, the water froze etc etc... I would not have any of that, instead kept interrupting and persisting that it was indeed snow on the ground, all the while thrusting on the closest jacket I could find, and shoving on the thickest shoes. I opened the door and walked out. I scraped my feet on the white sidewalk. "please do not tell me you call this ice," I cried, kicking some snow up into the air.
By that time he had put on some more clothes and walked outside as well. After a thoughtful examination, he declared, "well it does seem to be snow."
Such a beautiful winter wonderland.
I love how there's snow even around the pool, which is somehow still on and working:
Someone wrote this near the mailboxes:
The snow is more of a grainy dust. So it wasn't like I could make a true now ball, or even a snowman:
This was such a cool surprise.
